Law Society Governance Review

The Law Society Gazette has reported this week that ‘Chancery Lane is keen to hear the views of members on how it should be governed’, writes vice-president Robert Bourns in the Gazette.

He says that, ‘alongside agreeing a new strategy last year, your Law Society council also decided it is the right time to review the way your organisation is governed.’

He goes on to explain what the council does and how it is currently elected, before further detailing the governance review, headed by Dr Nicola Nicholls. He explains that the brief for her review includes:

  • securing wider member involvement;
  • the role of the council;
  • the right structures to support the council;
  • the representatives of the council as the profession changes; and
  • the role of the office holders.

Concluding the piece, Robert calls for Law Society members to participate in the review ‘via your council member, local Law Society or by use of email.’
